Run Through the Historic Districts! Historic Salisbury 5K Run - Saturday October 10th

Historic Salisbury Foundation really needs our support right now!

Join your friends and neighbors on Saturday, October 10, 2009 for a pleasant 5K run or a half mile fun run/walk through Historic Downtown Salisbury and the West Square Historic neighborhood.. As you stride through a mixed flat and hill course, you will be able to witness the town's history and preservation efforts! After the race, enjoy Salisbury's weekend festivities! Join Historic Salisbury Foundation’s Annual OctoberTour of Historic Homes and Bank Street Activities.

Cost:

Pre-registration: $20 includes a T-Shirt and a pair of Wrightsocks guaranteed to First 100 Participants!

Race Day registration: $25

Check-in and Race Day Registration: 7:00-7:45 a.m.

Starting and Registration Location: 507 South Fulton Street

5K Race Start Time: 8:00 am October 10, 2009

Parking: Available at Rowan County Library, 201 West Fisher and First United Church of Christ, 207 West Horah

The Historic Neighborhoods Alliance

The purpose of this Historic Neighborhoods Alliance is to organize Salisbury NC's Historic District neighborhoods into a constructive organization for the following purposes, among others, to:

Work to encourage mutual support of the continuing revitalization of Salisbury’s National Register and local Historic District neighborhoods;
Serve as an open channel of communication, information, and education for and among neighborhood associations;
Identify areas and issues of common concern among the neighborhoods and, when deemed appropriate by consensus of the member associations, to facilitate the resolution of such issues.
Encourage community spirit and cooperation among neighbors;
Preserve the appearance of the neighborhoods and promote beautification of the areas;
Preserve the existing single family houses in the areas;
Protect the residential character of the neighborhoods;
Maintain the unique historical character of the neighborhoods;
Encourage ongoing research pertaining to the history and architecture of the areas;
Work with organizations where joint action for the good of the neighborhoods is appropriate;
Provide organized action between the Alliance and the Salisbury Planning Board, Salisbury City Council, Historic Preservation Commission, Historic Salisbury Foundation, and the Salisbury Police Department regarding matters of concern to our neighborhoods;
Help extend and strengthen Historic Salisbury’s effort to save and protect historic houses, sites, objects, and neighborhoods;
Provide educational opportunities concerning the architecture and historic preservation of the neighborhoods.
