Mums for October Tour ~ Extend the Tradition!

The Historic Salisbury Foundation's much celebrated Historic House Tour is nearing, October 10th and 11th. A long standing tradition here is to deck our porches and front-scapes with yellow mums to welcome the many visitor's we expect from neighboring towns. The Historic Salisbury Foundation is pre-selling mums to downtown merchants and neighborhoods. If you order now, you will have your mums in place by the Tour weekend. You can purchase your mums online via the HSF website (www.historicsalisbury.org) or by stopping by their offices at the Depot.

While yellow is typically the color for the October Tour, many other colors are available. Help us decorate our neighborhoods for this wonderful and popular weekend! Order your mums now!

The Historic Neighborhoods Alliance

The purpose of this Historic Neighborhoods Alliance is to organize Salisbury NC's Historic District neighborhoods into a constructive organization for the following purposes, among others, to:

Work to encourage mutual support of the continuing revitalization of Salisbury’s National Register and local Historic District neighborhoods;
Serve as an open channel of communication, information, and education for and among neighborhood associations;
Identify areas and issues of common concern among the neighborhoods and, when deemed appropriate by consensus of the member associations, to facilitate the resolution of such issues.
Encourage community spirit and cooperation among neighbors;
Preserve the appearance of the neighborhoods and promote beautification of the areas;
Preserve the existing single family houses in the areas;
Protect the residential character of the neighborhoods;
Maintain the unique historical character of the neighborhoods;
Encourage ongoing research pertaining to the history and architecture of the areas;
Work with organizations where joint action for the good of the neighborhoods is appropriate;
Provide organized action between the Alliance and the Salisbury Planning Board, Salisbury City Council, Historic Preservation Commission, Historic Salisbury Foundation, and the Salisbury Police Department regarding matters of concern to our neighborhoods;
Help extend and strengthen Historic Salisbury’s effort to save and protect historic houses, sites, objects, and neighborhoods;
Provide educational opportunities concerning the architecture and historic preservation of the neighborhoods.
